Families interested in enrolling in Freedom Academy will enroll online, and be held to the same admission requirements as well as be required to participate in a preliminary interview in which the program is described thoroughly by the Program Director. Upon assessing the academic and learning needs of the child, along with identifying the family’s commitment to fully participate in the program, the student will be enrolled in Freedom Academy in the same manner of enrollment used at Literacy First Charter Schools K12, through an online application process. At the end of 8th grade, Freedom Academy students may apply to a school site through our regular LFCS lottery process. Preference may be given.
To get started, the IAP is created based on baseline assessments to be followed by a monitoring / observation period.
Students will submit quarterly portfolios and complete LFCS global assessments to demonstrate standards mastery at the end of each quarter as well as receive a standards based report card.
Families will report attendance turn in projects, and track progress online.
Families will visit the Resource Lab weekly for help with lessons, planning, mentoring, mini-classes, etc.
Families will be provided with curriculum and additional resources to broaden the learning experience.
A progress folder will be kept to verify academic intent and student progress. Freedom students will have the ability to participate in after-school activities as space is available.
Freedom Academy will be an independent study program committed to the ideal that all students can learn without exception. Students, teachers, parents and all staff work to that end. Students are treated as individuals as each works to meet current
state standards through their own individualized academic program (IAP) with the guidance of family and Teacher Consultants (TC). For many this program will allow flexibility throughout the day, individualized learning experiences, self-paced rigor in completing assignments, and
experiential learning opportunities with family. The environment at Freedom will be one that encourages, challenges and nurtures both parents and students in a standards based program to be productive, independent thinking, values conscious individuals that understand in order to take
ownership one must work to participate passionately in their program.
While curriculum may not be identical to what is used in the classroom, it will
reflect the same standards, time commitment to learning & days in class. Lack of parent participation, student progress, or non-compliance may be grounds for dismissal from the program. Exams will include: Placement exam, State Testing, Traditional Curriculum Assessments, SCANTRON Performance series & Achievement series.
